STATS

CONSUMPTION
A report by the UN states
  • “We are currently living in a biodiversity crisis, losing species on a daily basis and 1,000 times quicker than under natural circumstances.”
  • Scientists estimate that approximately 150 - 200 species are extinct every 24 hours.
  • According to Kew Royal Botanic Gardens, 21% of the plants worldwide are in danger of extinction.
  • One in six species of bees have gone regionally extinct.
  • At present a third of all insect species are threatened with extinction.

According to the World Wildlife Fund’s Living Planet Report of 2018
  • Rainforests are shrinking with almost 20% of the Amazon having disappeared in just 50 years.
  • From 1970 to 2014, vertebrate population sizes plummeted by 60%, while freshwater populations sank by 83%

The 2018 annual report from the International Union for Conservation of Nature publishes, noted 13,482 species on the endangered list. That is nearly twice the number that were reported 2006, and the trend is in all categories (mammals, reptiles, birds, insects, amphibians, mollusks, and fish).

POPULATION
  • Between 1820 and 2020, world population grew from 1B to 7B.
  • The astounding thing is that in 1950, the population was at 2B. This means that in the last 70 years, world population tripled the growth rate of the previous 70 years.

POLLUTION
According to the Living Planet Report
  • Habitat loss currently accounts for nearly half of the reduction in biodiversity.
  • Of grave concern is the fact that these numbers will increase due to carbon pollution related climate change.

Einstein’s definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Do we continue to operate as we always have? Do we continue on the current trajectory, or do we do something different?

We can all do something. We stand at a crossroad. This is our moment of greatness. What will be your legacy? What action will you take? Read “The Greatest Moment in Human History” to find out how each person really can change the world . . . for the better
